The DR is 20-25kg lighter, air-cooled, has adjustable tappets and a 3-bolt front sprocket. It makes a MUCH better off-road bike. Everyone I met who was riding a DR had had no trouble with it. On the other hand I've met and heard of several KLR owners with total engine failure. Do a search on the looooooong list of things KLR's need doing to them before you go anywhere.
People choose KLR's because they come with a comfy seat, decent sized fuel tank and a screen.

Remember - there is NO perfect travel bike, only what suits YOU for YOUR chosen trip, which is why nobody makes one.

Hi there!

I'm an english guy, traveling with my dad to an offroad 100-mile mountain bike ride on Saturday morning. We were driving down 5-15 Blue Ridge Georgia, and we happened to peer out of the window, and see you riding down the road!

Safe to say we waved furiously, but to no avail. We would have flagged you down and had a good old chat with you! There was 4 of us from the UK, a South African and an American.

I hope you have a great time riding along, and I admire what your doing. Please give me an email if your ever in Washington D.C and need a place to stay.

Thanks
